Save oceans - our collective approach

Oceans are main source of food to billions of people. We are familiarized with all types of seafood being islanders. There is a crying need to protect our seas irrespective of all petty differences such as racial, international or commercial backgrounds. Especially, from the youth from coastal communities. They are probably the best agents to spread the message on the importance of protecting the oceans because they have a close affinity to the sea. People even in landlocked countries can have access to fresh seafood. We should not forget that around 500 million people worldwide depend on the sea for a living, directly or indirectly. It is estimated that per capita consumption of fish worldwide is nearly 20 Kg. annually whilst around 90 million tonnes of fish are harvested annually from all seas worldwide. However, little noticed by many, the harvesting of aquatic plants (seawead) is also a growing industry.
