Old vs New

When being young everything seems like it is open source. Sometimes a youngster may feel that he/she can do anything, that anything is possible. Modifying everything for reaching perfection can be one of the goals that old people may find obsolete. The main thing on which people focus today is material perfection.

Old versus new can be seen as the known struggle between generations. Many old people can become unaware of what the youngsters want and need and they may think it is the time of retirement for them and they can become selfish and manipulative.

Many of the differences can come from the way of living of each individual, from the way everyone was raised. While some where raised in a poor family, where lack of everything has made them inpatient and nervous over time, others may have been living in a rich environment, with a lot of expensive things.

Of course, it may not be a matter of wealth only, because there are many other aspects involved, such as the way the parents treat their children, the entourages in which an individual grows as a teenager, school education, parental education, etc.

Some people develop certain habits after they mature and these habits may become part of their lives forever. Young people can be ambitions enough to desire a change and make everything possible in order to bring the change in their lives. It can be quite difficult sometimes, because of old people who want to maintain their habits and ideas, even if these habits bring no benefit. Tradition is a positive thing, but not always.

Of course that older people may have more experience and education, but that doesn’t mean they are always right. However, most of them are trying to impose their way of living to their children and this can be seen as a selfish behavior same patterns are maintaining from generation to generation for many families.

In many cases, reading a lot and becoming more aware of all the things around can make people wake up to the true values of life, which can be love and compassion. Instead of criticizing everything that youngsters do (of course, it doesn’t mean that all critics are bad, on the contrary), parents and grandparents could look at themselves first, see what they have realized.

Judgments can be justified if the persons who express them are respecting what they say as well. If they made mistakes, there is no point in criticizing others for the same mistakes that they did and that they were not able to fix themselves.

There has always been a struggle between generations, but it exists only because some people, no matter if they are old, or young, are not opened to what other people want and they don’t listen to other opinions. Even if both generations may be guilty, the main guilt is owned by older people. Since they are more experienced and educated, they should be aware of the stages through which the younger persons go through, even if their experiences can be different.
