Besides being a propagandist, Rizal is also called as a versatile genius. Here are just some of the things that Rizal has been able to do during his lifetime:
1. Ophthalmic surgeon
Rizal is famous for this profession -a practicing ophthalmologist and that he was able to cure his own mother’s cataract. Rizal was known to have trained under prominent European ophthalmologists- Otto Becker and Louis de Wecker. He did practice the professional backed in his hometown in Calamba Laguna, while he was in Hong Kong and while in exile at Dapitan.
2. Novelist
Rizal will never be forgotten for his best novels that are part of the Filipino subjects at all Philippine high school levels and these are the classic novels- Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo included among the treasures of Philippine Literature.
3. Linguist
Jose Rizal can speak up to 22 different languages and these includes Japanese, Latin, Spanish, Hebrew, Malayan, Portuguese, Russian, French, German, English, Chinese, Arabic, Sanskrit, Tagalog, and more. All of these help him to be able to establish romantic relations from women from foreign countries he visited.

Rizal has written several poems that have been thought to schools up to this time. While in prison he wrote his poem “Mi Ultimo Adios”. Other famous poems by Rizal include Sa Kabataang Pilipino and a Hymn to Talisay.

While Rizal was exiled in Dapitan, he was able to teach young boys living in the area to write, read and do arithmetic.

During their time, Rizal actively participated in the publishing of the revolutionary paper La Solidaridad. He wrote many articles there and had used the pen name Dimasalang and Laong Laan.

Rizal did experience doing business when he formed a partnership with Ramon Carreon in the business of lime manufacturing. He did it when he was in Dapitan.

He also devoted his time to agriculture and was able to bought about 16 hectares of land in Talisay. There he was able to plant cacao, fruit trees, sugarcane, corn and coconuts.

Rizal does loved science and discovery. He was able to explore the rich virgin field of Mindanao and was able to collect great specimens of lizards, insects, bats, snakes etc. which he was able to send in a museum in Europe.
